Merge Cube Support for Windows 10 Enhances AR Learning

LONDON, January 23, 2019 - Merge announces Windows 10 support for its award-winning Merge Cube. Schools using Microsoft Surface devices can now use the Merge Cube to enable students to hold virtual objects, such as the solar system, human brain and dinosaur fossils, to support active learning in the classroom, library, lab and Makerspace.

Merge is making available multiple localized Merge Cube apps in the Microsoft App Store beginning this month. Language support includes English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese. One of those apps, Object Viewer, allows anyone to import 3D object files (including those created in Microsoft Paint 3D or available in Remix 3D) and convert them to augmented reality virtual objects that they can hold in their hand on the Merge Cube. The Merge Cube is already integrated CoSpaces Edu and works with Tinkercad allowing students to create 3D objects and hold their creations as virtual objects.

First introduced to the European market at the 2018 IFA show in Berlin, the Merge Cube has sold more than 1.3 million units worldwide since 2017 and has become a favorite teaching tool among educators due to its attractive price and ease of use. The Merge Cube has been named as a Finalist for the 2018 Awards of Excellence in Tech & Learning that will be announced in February. More than 1,200 software developers worldwide have downloaded the software development kit to create apps for the Merge Cube.

“The Merge Cube is a digital school supply that extends learning beyond the limitations of device screens by giving students the ability to interact with virtual objects,” said Steve Patti, chief marketing officer, Merge. “Adding Windows 10 support for Merge Cube apps enables UK and European educators to make STEM learning fun and immersive as students can create, share and hold a variety of virtual objects in augmented reality - including models they create for 3D printing.”

“The integration of the Merge Cube with Windows 10 devices will give Microsoft Education customers a new way to engage their students in 3D, immersive learning,” said Dan Ayoub, GM Mixed Reality Education, Microsoft. “We look forward to seeing students’ Paint 3D creations brought to life with the Merge Object Viewer app.”
